Lincoln Child is one of those authors that fuels the imagination of readers who are fans of Indiana Jones, and similar archeaological based adventure stories. This story doesn't disappoint. Fast paced, and filled with ancient Egyptian legends, it's a mystery, with a supernatural twist, that kept me glued to the pages. I think I read it in two days.

The Third Gate --- by Lincoln Child. --- WOW!!! This book has it all. Posession. Out of body experiences. Ancient Egyptian tombs. Ancient curses. Sarcophagi .The hostile environment of the African Sudd (that's a huge swamp on the Upper Nile). Hordes of flying, blood sucking insects. About the only thing missing is sex. The story line involves a group of Egyptologists in pursuit of the tomb of an ancient pharaoh. The tomb is found. Curses galore are inscribed on the outside of the tomb, curses that are repeated in a sinister voice when a member of the crew, a woman possessed, literally, by a malevolent spirit claiming to be the tomb’s malevolent inhabitant. And one after another, the curses are borne out. Sorry, but I dare not tell you how this thriller ends. For sure, it deserves being called a mystery novel. And one you can barely put down. I give this novel five stars --- but that's only because these programme won't let me award more.

Not As Good As I Had Hoped I had never read a book by this author before, and I was in the mood for an Adventure/Thriller.I got The Third Gate from my library, and I am very happy that I hadn't spent money for it. It is an ok. read. It did manage to hold my interest until the end,but it starts very slowly, with the action not starting until around pg.93.I was hoping for way more suspense and tension,I suppose, but there is not much of either here. If you are looking for a book that is gripping and has you on the edge of your seat, sadly this is not it,but it is a suitable timepasser for a rainy/snowy weekend. I do plan to try another one or two books from this author, because I want adventure books that are not profanity or sex filled.

A curse hung over the dig for the tomb of Pharaoh Menes who unified the upper and lower Nile Egypt. Child's plot and writing made the complex story a pleasure to read.

A so-so adventure novel. My biggest problem was I have never had a big desire to read about "Near Death Experiences" which plays heavily into the plot.

An interesting read that reminded me of an old Saturdy matinee from my teen days. A top secret dig going on in the Sudd of Egypt with. Little sabotage and mystery thrown in. Something about the book seems very surface. We don't really know what the characters are thinking and feeling in the various scenarios.

A mix between Raiders of the Lost Arc and Child's Pendergast series. A good read and reccomended.
