Item Details

From the author of the international bestseller, IF I STAY, now a major film starring Chloe Grace Moretz. When sheltered American good girl Allyson "LuLu" Healey first meets laid-back Dutch actor Willem De Ruiter at an underground performance of Twelfth Night in England, there's an undeniable spark. After just one day together, that spark bursts into a flame, or so it seems to Allyson, until the following morning, when she wakes up after a whirlwind day in Paris to discover that Willem has left. Over the next year, Allyson embarks on a journey to come to terms with the narrow confines of her life, and through Shakespeare, travel, and a quest for her almost-true-love, to break free of those confines. Just One Day is the first in a sweepingly romantic duet of novels. Willem's story- Just One Year -is out now.

Honestly, the first part of this book bored me. And by page 100 I was about to mark it as DNF with 1 or 2 stars. Then I saw all the amazing reviews and ratings of this book here on GR. So, I decided to give it another chance.
I was very glad I did. The second part was extremely interesting, and kept me thinking till the end.

The sequel picks up where this one left off, but in Willem's POV. I will DEFINITELY read the next book. I kept on thinking "Where's Willem? What did he do? What about Allyson?" throughout the entire story, and hopefully, Just One Year will give me all those answers.

I have read other books by this author and enjoyed them, which is why I picked this book last time I stopped by the library. I started reading it one evening around 6:45/7ish PM and didn't put it down until i was finished at 11:50 PM. I was so invested in Allyson's' search for Willem I couldn't stop myself from turning the pages. When the book ended I got so frustrated because I just wanted to know what happened next. I am very much looking forward to the sequel, and I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoyed hopeless romance or self discovery novels, though it is an easy read with a somewhat predictable plot line.

At first I didn't like it because I thought she was annoyingly obsessed with finding Willem again. Then, as the story goes on, you kind of find that it wasn't Willem she was searching for, but her true self. It's a really coming-of-age story for those making the rough transition between high school and college. I can't wait for the sequel!

I look forward to reading the second book.

"Can a whole life change in just a single day? Allyson Healey (a.k.a. LuLu) would say yes. Just after meeting laid-back, handsome young Dutch actor Willem De Ruiter at an underground performance of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, usually-uptight LuLu impulsively travels to Paris with him for a whirlwind day of romance. When she wakes up the next morning and Willem is gone, LuLu is badly shaken - but over the next year of her life she begins to explore who she really is instead of merely fulfilling her parents' expectations. Fans of author Gayle Forman's previous pair of romantic companion novels, If I Stay and Where She Went, will be pleased to know that Willem's side of the story is to be told in the book Just One Year."
