Victoria Hoyt's art is rooted in the homemade craft aesthetic. Growing up, her mom made their clothes and curtains and cross-stitched messages. Pattern and color aren't mere decoration to Hoyt, but love, care and attention. As a painter, this causes her to be more bricoleur than traditionalist. Hoyt likes to play with materials and twist the old into new marks, language and expression. Since her daughter was born in 2014, she is particularly interested in the wisdom of fragments and marginalia, and as the artist Lenka Clayton puts it, "the absurd poetry of time spent with children."
