"Officious little pr*ck." I'll always remember that as one of the greatest first lines around. I love this book. It's got some of the best writings on how the alcoholic mind works (takes one to know one). I liked Dick Hallorann.…

I had seen the movie so many times that it was hard to not play the corresponding scenes in my head when listening to the audiobook. It’s a beloved classic and the book should not have been able to outshine it (🤣), but somehow, it did.…

Incredible read, an all-timer for me as well as the Kubrick adaptation.

Besides one of his short stories “The Long Walk” this would be my first reading of any Stephen King’s writing. I had seen the movie, which King had nothing to do with. I was pretty blown away by the book for the first 400 pages. I was…

Besides the use of the n-word, this book is great. Stephen King's detail really makes you feel like you are watching a movie.

Why are there limited amounts of an e-book, it's online and doesn't make any sense :( 5 Stars for the book 1 star for my sadness for only being able to get to Chapter 7

I really enjoyed! A well-written book, and I guess I should say props to Stephen King because even I felt tired of Jack Torrance with his weird behaviour… I loved Danny’s perspective and exploring the ghosts of the Overlook :D

"It's creepy, it's visceral, and as always, better than the movie. (Well okay, they're tied. Both equally amazing!)" - Sarah N.

When John Torrence gets an offer to be a caretaker of the Overlook Hotel and brings his wife Wendy Torrence and his son Danny Torrence with him. It gives John a chance to help him write a new book that he has been struggling to write for a…

This is a book I’ve wanted to read since 1980 when I first saw it on a paperback book carousel. Once I had seen the Kubrick film (now several times), I dismissed reading it, but someone on Goodreads convinced me I would not be disappointed…

I love King but only just got around to reading this classic. The ultimate haunted house story, and worth the hype. I didn't really find it scary, but the way reality slowly unravels is both fascinating and disturbing.

How does a preschooler survive a violent, bloody haunted hotel? The Shining by Stephen King is a horrifying, but thrilling experience of a horror book. It is the story of Danny, a five-year-old boy with his parents who become caretakers at…

An absolute classic King novel. Twisted, horrific, mind bending. I also highly recommend Doctor Sleep once you've finished The Shining.

A great classic horror book. The Mini Series goes hand in hand with the book.

if you're curious about reading it then I'd say it's not bad. I've never seen the movie and honestly don't care to. it's one of those things where you read it and it's just "yeah, that was a book alright" there's nothing seriously…

The Shining is an undeniable classic, but the unrelenting suspense is almost too much at times. It never once lets up, the tension builds, never quite mounts, and the result is a palpably frustrating read. However, the character…

If Stephen King is going to be remembered for anything, it is going to be for this book. One of the cornerstones of horror fiction and popular culture.

The Shining, Stephen King’s most popular and most defining work, has paved the way for his other novels and the entire horror genre as a whole. It tells the story of Jack, an alcoholic father, Wendy, a conflicted mother, and Danny, their…

This was finally a good book from king, nice dialogue, nice building of tension. Subtle writing. No anti-religious undertones. What a change. This is a mediocre book for me, there was an obsession towards saying "breasts" instead of chest…
