This was ok. I had already read the other book about Kentucky packhorse librarians which was extremely similar and left me wondering if there was a bit of idea stealing going on with one of these authors. I found the aspect of the blue…

Beautifully written story about the formation in 1937 of a New Deal sponsored "traveling library" in a small mining town in Kentucky, by which books are delivered to people who cannot otherwise get to the library. The focus is on the…

I just loved this book! The characters were so well written. It was very clear from the beginning that one of the main themes is women being underestimated, and the packhorse librarians proved themselves time and time again. They were…

Early Jojo Mayes (before she became famous) are a delight to read. She can be inventive and funny. Historical fiction based on the diaries of others and related research may not be the proper vehicle for her talents. Her own ideas and…

This book was more than I was expecting. The strong female character roles. The side romance. I felt so connected to the packhorse librarians and the relationships they built with one another! I’m so pleased with this book.

I was enthralled by this book. Normally I don't like to read Appalachian dialects but they weren't that noticeable. The strong females in this book are so inspiring I felt like I could conquer the world after I finished

This was a great read, kept my interest, with interesting characters.
The female characters are particularly engaging and Moyes did a solid job bringing them to life.

Moyes' book is riveting. I laughed and I cried, not to mention I expanded my knowledge of the underground support women gave each other in that period of time. An excellent read!

One of Jojo's best books! Make this baby into a movie to reach the masses.
Though if you're not into romance, or historical fiction it won't be for you. But I'd also say if you're not into either then Jojo is not the author for you.

I haven’t rated a book 5 stars in quite some time. This was a great story about the women delivering library books to those living in the mountains of Kentucky. But this story is so much more. Well developed characters that you either…

Takes place in the 1930's and in Kentucky, with a group of women delivering books to the hill people, part of the Eleanor Roosevelt's WPA project. Each of the 4 women have different strenghts, life situations and develop a strong bond…

What a story! Page turning action, characters that become familiar, love, loss, friendship, triumph. Yes please! Will definitely read Jojo Moyes again. Read this story, you will love every word.
Boring, depressing. I thought I'd never finish the book. The book/plot was too long. This book was the first I read by this author, not impressed. Although, I did like reading about the packhorse librarians.
