"Some people try to tell you the things you want in life are out of your grasp, while others lift you up on their shoulders and help you reach them. I may not know a lot, but I prefer to fill my life with people who let me climb on their shoulders, not people who try to keep me planted on the ground."
I shook my head. "I'm not that girl anymore. I've grown up and I learned from that experience."
... "You are that girl, Maddie. You're just getting it beat out of you."
“People are becoming spectators of their own lives instead of living them. But the best part is getting in the game. That’s when it’s all worth it.”
“I used to think talking was all about words. But you can say so much more with your eyes and your fingers and your touch. Words just make us one-dimensional.”
“This is the real world, right now happening in front of us, and everybody’s missing it.”
“It’s not convenience that bothers me, it’s people’s obsession with saving time. Everything’s a race. I just don’t get who or what we’re constantly racing against.”
“Life should be a risk. It’s more than a straight line that you can see clearly from one point to the other. It dips and curves and you never know what’s around the bend sometimes until you get there. That scares a lot of people. But that’s the beauty of it.”

Maddie lives in a virtual world in the year 2060 with nearly no physical contact. Her dad is the creator of Digital School, DS and ever since Maddie hacked into his computer and sent his files to the rebels 2 and a half years ago, she's been in total confinement. Lately though, she has been chatting with Justin, an online tutor and when he asks to meet her in a real life, physical study group she hesitantly agrees. The domino effect from that meeting is instant. She meets Justin and his friends, who strongly oppose DS and wants people to have a choice, real school or DS. Maddie feels torn, she cannot betray her family again, but she too longs for the physical connection that is missing with DS, but she can't shake the feeling that she is being used by Justin and his friends. Not to mention her intense attraction to Justin and the constant walls he puts up. Who will Maddie choose; her family that she betrayed once before, or Justin? The struggle is fierce, dynamic and ever changing. And what about Justin, the constant wonderer who never stays in one place, how can he turn away from the only person he has ever loved? How can he choose between his mission and Maddie?
