Interesting movie. Amazing story.
Good story. The places used for location are breath taking. Pretty nice to have both also wonderful to only have the violence of nature viewed and only some mild profanity. Yay Canada.
Really like this movie. Highly recommend. Based on true story.
A compelling story with fine acting and great local color (most of the film takes place in the Costa Rican jungle). Although based on a true story the filmmakers have made some changes eg the child, originally 6 years old, is 10 years old and can therefore think and relate to the world and to people which is the essence of the story (that and a certain mystical attitude). The film is touching and beautiful and since it is true it is spared being maudlin. A nice little DVD extra documentary shows them on the shoot and some footage of the actual kid and the entomologist. There are, in my opinion, some false notes, but the core of the film is so strong that they don't matter.
This is a beautiful film based on a true story, The Blue Butterfly tells the story of a terminally ill 10-year-old boy (Marc Donato) whose dream is to catch the most beautiful butterfly on Earth, the mythic and elusive Blue Morpho. His mother (Pascale Bussières) persuades a renowned entomologist (William Hurt) to take them on a trip to the jungle to search for the butterfly, leading to an adventure that will transform their lives. Raoul Trujillo plays their native guide in the rain forest.
For those who, like me, travel vicariously, the filming locations of Insectarium de Montréal, Montréal, Québec, Canada; Limon, and Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica provide some fascinating footage.
Special note should be made that this is a Canadian film and like many others that I am discovering thanks to tv networks finally discovering them and telecasting them for us. Certainly, the movie distribution bigwigs have not favoured us with them at our local cinemas.
