What to read next is every book lover's greatest dilemma. Nancy Pearl comes to the rescue with this wide-ranging and fun guide to the best reading new and old. Pearl, who inspired legions of litterateurs with "What If All (name the city) Read the Same Book," has devised reading lists that cater to every mood, occasion, and personality. These annotated lists cover such topics as mother-daughter relationships, science for nonscientists, mysteries of all stripes, African-American fiction from a female point of view, must-reads for kids, books on bicycling, "chick-lit," and many more. Pearl's enthusiasm and taste shine throughout.

This guide is both comprehensive and narrow. A lot of great titles, especially ones I've never heard of - but incredibly time-sensitive. Many authors who I'd never heard of, or books that just aren't popular (haven't stood the test of time) today, over 10 years later. I'd be interested to read an updated copy of this though!

So many books, so little life…

Ms. Pearl gets the importance of books. She adores them, probably makes best friends with people instantly depending on what they read. But it’s not just about the reading. It’s about what books bring to us and what we bring to them. She knows that not all books are for all people but in this volume she did her best to list all the books for practically every mood and desire we might have. Want to read about romance books? Here are a few choice selections (and guilty pleasures). Want to read books about nitty gritty crime or elegant drawing room murders? She’s got those, too.

Books are very much like a Whitman’s Sampler. There’s so much to choose from and it’s hard to stop with just one. Browse through Ms. Pearl’s list. She’s bound to come up with something that you’d like. If you don’t find your favorite(s) listed, you can contact her at her email to make suggestions…because the only thing about books that’s better than reading them is discussing them with people who get it.

Not sure what to read next? The subtitle of this book says it all. Pearl, Director of the Washington Center for the Book (and model for the recently-released librarian action figure) offers more than 175 creative and often witty lists of recommended fiction and non-fiction from World War I fiction to books featuring Elvis Presley to "Too Good to Miss" authors you may not have heard of. Although heavily weighted to American locations and themes, Pearl does offer international lists, such as "Polish Poems and Prose" and, yes, "Canadian Fiction." I had pen and paper nearby while reading Book Lust and now have suggested titles to keep me reading for months.

Nancy Pearl is a superstar librarian. Director of the Washington Center for the Book, she also has a weekly book review program on National Public Radio and worked as a public librarian in Seattle for years where she created the program ?If All Seattle Read the Same Book.? There?s even a librarian action figure modeled on her. So when Nancy Pearl says ?This is a good book,? people listen. With Book Lust, Nancy recommends over one hundred of her personal favorite books. Grouped into creative subjects that vary from ?Bird Brains? to ?Elvis On My Mind? to ?Lady Travelers? to ?Three-Hanky Reads? and everything in between, Nancy muses about plot, pacing, setting, character, and gets to the heart of why this book or that book is a good read. Book Lust (and its subsequent companion titles More Book Lust, Book Crush, and Book Lust To Go) is a book to be flipped through and dipped into depending on the moment and your own particular mood. Whether you?re a romance reader or a historical fiction fan, a lover of nonfiction or of fantasy, you?ll come away from Book Lust with reading possibilities galore.
