This is my favorite book of all time. I've reread it countless times and I pick up on something new every time. It is quirky and takes awhile to understand but in the end it's worth it. I would absolutely recommend.

"Plagued by guilt for harm that she believes she brought on her sister and stepmother, 17-year-old Briony Larkin is convinced that she's a witch who deserves to suffer, even to hang. But there are many dark secrets in Briony's village of Swampsea, and when a London engineer and his handsome son arrive to drain the marshes -- causing the supernatural Old Ones who live in the swamp to retaliate -- those secrets begin bubbling to the surface. Chime is sure to resonate with readers who crave luxuriant, unhurried writing; dark, tantalizingly magical settings; and stories that meld romance, fantasy, and mystery." This book is actually pretty good! Might take a while to get used to how the story is written, but the story is pretty easy to visualize and the pictures are really vivid.

I read this with a chip on my shoulder because it took the place of "Shine" by Lauren Myracle, on the National Book Awards nomination list, and I am a fan of "Shine." But I have to admit, "Chime" is equally good. You should read both! Actually, a book that's better than either of these is John Green's, "The Fault in Our Stars." So good!!!!! All 3 are teen novels. But I'm 47 and I liked them all.

I once had a friend who couldn't get an A from her teacher, no matter how hard she tried. When she asked the teacher about it, the reply was: You can do better. That's how I feel about Chime. Billingsley has shown herself to be a top-flight fantasy writer in the past. Here's she sets the stage for another great--but tumbles in spite of her skill and imagination. Arch prose eventually cloys and becomes heavy-handed. The plot turns see-through long before the reveal. If this were by anyone else, I would give it at least four stars; Franny could have carved 100 pages from this book without hurting it. You can do better.

Amazing, amazing, amazing. read it twice, and could not put it down!

From the beginnig you think you know the truth and the lies, but at the end all the supposed lies are the truthe, and the truths are all lies. I definitely sugest this book to everyone!!

The narrator had the strangest voice, which took me a while to adjust to but makes the book stand out from the norm. Nice touches of historical fiction, fantasy, and mystery. It's pretty oppressive at first, but pull through it! That's one of the best features about the story--the whole time Briony is muddling in her guilt you're thinking she has to be wrong, but you still have to fit the pieces together. Definitely not going to forget this one!
