On January 20, 1942, 15 German officials attended a conference at Wannsee - on the outskirts of Berlin. The meeting comprised of mid-ranking SS commanders and a variety of government ministers. The meeting was organized by SS Major Adolf Eichmann under the direction of Chief of Security Reinhard Heydrich. It was a polite conference, but under this thin veneer of manners lay an evil intent. By the end of the meeting, the fate of six million lives would be decided and the shape of the world would be altered forever.

The meeting held about the grand plan to exterminate an entire race. Pretty disgusting stuff.

The evil that men do. Great acting all around. Nothing like organizing the death of millions over a nice dinner and cognac~,420

Well made movie of ultimate evil. Runs like a corporate board meeting. Kenneth Branagh does historical roles so well. Makes you think.

This movie was very well done and the acting was on-point. It's a very chilling look at what went on behind closed doors of the Nazi regime. It also proves that Hitler alone wasn't the architect of the Final was also the work of Goering, Goebbels, Himmler, Heydrich, and Eichmann. What's even more disturbing is that they pulled resources away from the military to annihilate the Jews instead of focusing on fighting off the Allies coming from the west and the surge of Soviets from the east. In closing, I greatly enjoyed this film. Full of deep intrigue.

The cold way in which the Nazi's and their allies wanted to eradicate the Jews made me sick. The fact that many got off with only a few years for their war crimes really felt like an injustice. The only justice I see was that they will pay for their crimes in the next life. They will burn in hell and it will be more painful than anything they inflicted here on earth. The Jews are in heaven, the Nazi's...not so much.

Humanities evil ways through following leaders. Really they were just rubber stamping what was already in the works. What stood out most to me is that it was easy for leaders to give orders, but they knew it would be impossible to carry out if the individual soldiers had to shoot people. We would be better off with no leaders, but the psychos always scare enough people into following them.

This is the worst case scenario for Groupthink. They all seemed to think they were lawyers, but they had total disregard for the Nuremberg Codes. It was addressed as an issue, but dismissed. Another issue that was a concern was availability of slave labor. They discussed sterilization as an option for control of the targeted ethnic populations. It seemed more like an American Board Meeting. Assets were seized through concepts of imminent domain (similar to the volkish attitude in this area). Identifying ethnicity by percentage was similar to Native American identity. It justified seizing of land and isolating populations. The Nazis attempts to appear civilized could never mask the hellish barbarism they promoted. Denying people basic rights set forth by the Nuremberg Codes was approved by detention centers for the purpose of water boarding, signed into law by former President Bush. What direction are we going? The left hand does not seem to know what the right hand is doing!

re the comment by Franzkafka: According to the Wannsee Conference page listing in Wikipedia: quote: One copy of the Wannsee Protocol, the circulated minutes of the meeting, survived the war to be found by Robert Kempner, lead U.S. prosecutor before the International Military Tribunal at Nuremberg, in files that had been seized from the German Foreign Office. (end of quote).
re: Madjanek as a concentration camp: According to The Encyclopedia of the Third Reich (Louis L. Snyder, editor, Wordsworth Editions,Eng., 1998, and McGraw Hill, NY, 1976, Madjanek was, quote: originally a labor camp but was transformed into a death camp under the administration of SS-Brigadesfuehrer Odilo Globocnik. Unlike Belzec, it had some industrial activity. Non-Jewish prisoners were admitted. At first death was induced by carbon monoxide asphyxiation, but later huydrcyanic, or prussic, acid fumes (see zyklon-B) were used following successful tests at Belzec. It is estimated that 1.5 million inmates were gassed at Majdanek. After Russian troops discovered the camp on July 23, 1944, Konstanin Simonov, a Soviet writer, wrote a full account of the death camp for Pravda. In a special issue the London Illustrated News published photos of the gas chambers and ovens at Madjanek (end of quote, page 220). Thus I would urge refraining from describing Majdanek (and Belzec, Sobibor, Treblinka, Auschwitz-Birkenau as concentration camps.) There were over a thousand concentration (e.g. Bergen-Belsen, Buchenwald, Dachau among the historically more well-known ones) and forced labor and transit camps throughout Nazi occupied Europe. While many thousands perished (were murdered) in the concentration camps, death camps like Madjanek operated specifically as mass murder (extermination) camps. Thanks.

One of those true-to-form movies about the Nazis that only confirms everything one understands to be the case. One of the worthy messages was the complicity of the German, Russian and Polish people at so many levels one way or the other.

There is a movie called The Wanssee Conference from the 80s. In that version it was claimed that no written records survived and it was based on bits of conversation overheard by wait staff. In this version there was a stenographer and a written record was found by the Allies. Revision? Just saying. Before you call the CJC on me let me tell you that I toured Majdanek concentration camp located near Lublin, Poland 40 years ago.. I believe that millions died in the Nazi death machine. Jews, Slavs, Gypsys and enemies of the state.
I still wonder about the difference between the 2 movies though. See for yourself.
