I am not sure if I liked this read or not. It seemed too busy, with multiple characters introduced before I was even 10% into the story. Also, I never really warmed up to protagonist Molly, nor any of the supporting cast. However, I did still keep reading - I am an optimist. I also recognize that this is the first book of a series, and while Delany is a seasoned writer first books are often awkward. I will read the next one or two and see how it goes.

This is the first book in the Smith and Winters series. Highly recommend.

The novel features an interesting cast of characters, especially Molly the new cop, her hippie parents and Detective Sergeant John Winters. Molly seems to be somewhat naive and have little sense yet she does continue on despite her misgivings and on-the-job learning problems. It will be nice to see how her character will develop in the next novel.
A good debut for Delany but it certainly isn't Louise Penny, another Canadian author.

Really liked this book and am looking forward to reading more of this series. It is unfortunate that the library doesn't have the second book available.

One of the few series set in Canada, this is no cozy mystery. The people and events in this fictitious BC town are realistic, and evoke enough interest to make you put the next book in the series on hold immediately.

If I had read this book first I would not have continued with the series. However, having read a later book and then this one, I am happily working my way through the series. Just started a third book.

Disappointing ... It's hard to care who murdered a person when the deceased is so unlikeable, and I found the writing stilted.

Good first mystery from this author...a Canadian mystery author and a very enjoyable read.
