good film with good acting by paul muni. it deals with a serious issue of government lying to people so that the government will look good. well worth watching given our government's actions in the past.

Paul Muni is thought by many to be one of our finest actors of all time. "The Life of Emile Zola" is a great Paul Muni movie. He plays the famous author and muckraker Emile Zola. The movie is based on a true story of his involvement with what called the Dreyfus Affair. The case involved an innocent man accused of giving government secrets to the Germans. It is a famous case in French history because the government was more interested in convicting someone of a crime than finding the real criminal. It is an important movie still even though it was made in 1937. We still must be diligent to convict the guilty but not the innocent.
P.S. I am the first patron to comment on this classic movie. I would greatly appreciate any comments you have after viewing the film. Thanks so much!
