Marriage Equality has been in the news lately, and young ears might have questions about what it means. This is a good book to read with curious children to explore different types of families. There's an actual story, not just pictures, so it might bore kiddos younger than kindergarten, but young elementary school-aged kids will find the story engaging and honest.

In this book Molly draws a family picture for her kindergarten open house. "First she drew Mommy. Then she drew Mama Lu.” Definitely not a book for the Children area of libraries. (How long until the censors find this post and remove it?)

My daughter loved this book when she was little.

A gentle yet straight-forward handling of same-sex parenting and the questions kids may have about it. I thought the teacher character handled Molly's feelings beautifully: when Molly says that the other kids say a real family can't have two moms, the teacher replies that it obviously can, because Molly's family does. That's perfect!
