Through interviews and dramatic readings, the film transforms selections from this collection of writing into a deep examination of the experiences of the men and women who are serving in America's armed forces. At the same time it provides depth and context to these experiences through a broader look at the universal themes of war literature.

This documentary was originally broadcast as a segment of the PBS (Public Broadcasting Service) series "America at a Crossroads" on April 16, 2007.
It is a series of 11 films that transform a collection of writing into a deep examination of life on the front lines.
The stories recounted are sad, funny, violent or uplifting, though those episodes evoke the universal emotions of war with a haunting poignancy and raw emotion.

Written by soldiers themselves, most of the artwork is really well done.
I will say, the actual Lt Col Strobl, the basis for the movie "Taking Chance" is on here as well.
Good for students and veterans alike.
