I liked this book more than the original series because the main characters weren't omg-the-most-powerful-EVAR-in-the-history-of-the-realms. Working within limitations makes things more interesting. It's also a lot less rapey.

This story introduced new main characters, though Jaenelle, Daemon, Lucivar and Saetan were still involved in the plot. I loved the connections between them all and especially loved how the new main characters had links to the main characters in The Invisible Ring, making that book a sort of book 1 for its own trilogy rather than the stand-alone book it was thought to be at the time of its release.

A nice story with some memorable characters, but not nearly as riveting or excitng as the original series.

Although we see some of the characters from the original Black Jewel Trilogy, the Shadow Queen isn't as exciting, and is actually a bit boring.

The book takes up after janelle has cleanesed the blood. Cassidy is a Queen that has been betryated and hurt and it was nice to see her come into her own.
