This movie was more of a political statement. If you support illegal immigration, then you'd like the movie, but if you don't support illegal immigration you can see this film works to justify the "morality" of being in this country illegally. Either way, one may or may not like this film. I give it two stars or at the minimum 1.5 stars...

This film is a slice of life many American citizens could not imagine living. Demián Bichir's performance is wonderful and moving. A Better Life is rated PG-13 for some violence, language and brief drug use.

This movie has a Disney feel to it but is anything from that. Terrible ending but overall a good movie.

This demonstrates the power of choice that youth have within them. Despite all the bad examples of manhood around him, and degradation of his culture in LA, Luis chooses to acknowledge his father's dreams for him, and decides to distance himself from his closest friends in order to excel.

Carlos, an illegal immgrant, finally manages to start his own business when provided with an opportunity to take over from his current boss. Unfortunately, his American born son has made friends with a questionable group of people who threaten everything his father is attempting to build and provide for him. Carlos trusts the wrong person, and in his search to reclaim what was taken you see some pretty sad stuff of an illegal's life in the US. Unfortunately, just on the cusp of connection and movement, he gets caught and deported, leaving his son with his sister's family. The end is breath takingly real, full of possibility and you are left cheering for them all.

“A Better Life” representa la experiencia de muchos inmigrantes en los EE.UU. La película disfruta de un buen elenco y guión. La recomiendo.

This movie was entertaining and interesting but not one of my favorite for this year. “Not too bad---good performance”. "I fast forwarded a lot but not all the way.”

Best Oscar and Golden Globe film, Bicycle Thief (AKA Bicycle Thieves) by Vittorio de Sica, is the inspiration for this movie. Instead of 1940's urban Italy, this movie takes place in 2010's L.A. barrio, and the stolen vehicle is a landscaping truck. This is an excellent view of the trauma and daily life of illegals working at physical minimum wage to provide a better life for their children. Quite emotional as the two generations learn more about each other.
