Fourteen year old Chase lives with mother, step-dad and two siblings four hours north of Phoenix in the White Mountains of Arizona. He is involved in the new “sport” of geocaching and has just received his own GPS as a gift from his dad.
Chase and his family own a vacation cabin /country store resort and he is an essential employee in this business. Between school and chores he must work hard to carve out time to engage in geocaching .
Early in the novel Chase finds a cryptic note in the geocache box at a game site and later encounters two young, unaccompanied brothers at that remote outpost in the mountains. He is intrigued to think they are “camping” with their dad even though it is not a vacation season. The young brothers are very appealing to Chase who begins to feel protective toward them and makes plans to meet them several times during hours when their father is asleep or absent.

Grant writes a suspenseful story with details of desert survival and also of the geocach type of gaming. She makes Chase an appealing hero and shows most adults as caring, reliable individuals.
