Bordelli rushes to her hilltop villa and picks the locks. The old woman is lying on her bed--apparently killed by an asthma attack, though her medicine has been left untouched. With the help of his young prot#65533;g#65533;, the victim's eccentric brother, and a semi-retired petty thief, the inspector begins a murder investigation. This is the story of a copper who has a conscious attempting to hold onto his morals in a decaying world. War vet becomes Police Inspector, mentors new officer, who just happens to be the son of one of his war comrades. Melancholic and semi dark. Bordelli will stand next to Rebus on my shelves! A huge thank you to the customer who recommended this series!!

This series is so great. Not your usual mystery who done it, it's more a slice of life in Italy in the '60's with a world-weary detective. This is how life was lived then, and it makes our own life look weirdly overly fast-paced and thin.

War vet becomes Police Inspector, mentors new officer, who just happens to be the son of one of his war comrades. Melancholic and semi dark. Same translator as Camilleri; look for index.
