This album is evocative, ground-breaking, and a work of musical genius -- enough so that it hasn't left my regular rotation since it came out several years ago.
Revisited this album now that he’s finally released his follow up, and I’ve definitely come to appreciate Channel Orange more with time. I didn’t love it back in 2012 (thought it was too tedious and overhyped), but over the years I found myself going back to it again and again. There’s something about it that hooks you. Ocean’s songwriting stands out in particular; every line is poignant and carefully crafted. The songs I always go back to are Thinkin Bout You, Bad Religion, and Pyramids.
R&B or neo soul, whatever genre you want to put it in, this album's an excellent listen every time. Great production paired with top-notch songwriting.
Between Frank Ocean, The Weeknd, and Miguel my top 25 playlist is infused with all three. Definitely had to support these artist.
Sort of a fusion of Stevie Wonder circa Talking Book and Kanye West circa Late Registration.
I usually listen to folk music and singer/songwriter stuff. So I'm surprised at how much I enjoyed this album. Great album and artist! Enjoy!
