Well below what one expects from British courtroom dramas. Disappointing enough that we gave up after two episodes.

The rather quirky Alan Davies is always fun to watch and he is perfect as Henry Farmer. Good stories with interesting plots, fine acting and quality production. If you enjoyed the British series "Silk", you will enjoy this, too.

Henry Farmer is a maverick barrister with a complicated personal life in the complete collection of the BBC series The Brief. There are eight unusual cases as well as a multitude of Henry's personal problems on display over eight episodes. A man and his girlfriend are charged with the murder of the man's children. The rape and death of a young English traveler in Jakarta is the subject of a coroner's inquest. A gypsy child is accused of murdering one of her playmates. A man convicted of murdering his wife during a mysterious love triangle is given leave to appeal. The death of several people in a train wreck finds the train's engineer on trial for murder. A young man with Asperger's syndrome is charged with killing his mother. An NHS nurse is charged with murdering one of her patients. Finally an accountant is charged in civil court for the rape of a married woman. Throughout the series Henry Farmer is dealing with a gambling problem and financials issues. Henry also tries to connect with his estranged father and son. All of the cases are complex and interesting and Henry's unique humor and perspectives provide great entertainment.
