Someone once said that Megan was more of an exotic beauty, while Ellie was fresh faced and natural, whatever that meant. Guys often found Megan attractive and her sarcastic demeanor intimidating or intriguing. Usually guys who expected things went after her.
But what would it be like to really be naturally beautiful? To go running or wake in the morning and still look pretty? Megan wouldn't know, but Ellie lived that every day. Or had. What would it be like to have your beauty taken away?

Fire. There had been a fire in the car.
Now it was making sense. Now she understood her mother's continued crying. And Ellie wondered why they hadn't just let her die.

Ellie knew Jesus had heard her prayer. That Jesus was good, and Grandfather was bad. But now Jesus seemed as dead as her grandfather. He wasn't helping her now.

[Death]…had taken her grandfather and eventually would take everything and everyone she loved and hated. She’d always had her faith in God. Now she felt that Death was a larger god than God Himself. No, no, she told herself. She didn’t believe that, not really. But she knew Death’s face better than God’s. She felt the suffering of death in her scars and wounds, whereas she didn’t feel God at all anymore.

Ellie.
It was a one-word declaration that said it all. For that was who she was. And that was who she would be. And God would complete the work He had begun in her, and her life did and would matter. And she knew that she was no longer afraid to love.

I just finished this book after knowing about it for a long time. I will say, I was not disappointed. This book really deals in how our lives can change in a second, and we can either wallow in despair or accept it and move on. Ellie was a very good character; the reader will really feel the change and the pain that the accident caused her. I liked Megan as well, though I feel like the author didn't dive into her as much as I would've liked. There were some questions left unanswered as the author focused more on Ellie. Ryan and Will were good background characters. I will admit, I wasn't too happy with how God was treated in this book. He sort of got the back seat until the very end, and it wasn't very pleasing. However, the author did drop enough clues to show us that the main characters were changed because of their experiences, especially Ellie. Some things I had problems with besides this was that the whole Grandfather thing was a little...one-dimensional? I don't know, it just wasn't as profound as the author might have meant it to be. Also, the title sounds like it's dealing with self-worth, and while this book does touch on that, it's not the complete, main focus. Although the beginning of the book was a little slow, it picked up pace towards the middle. All in all, a nice read. I'll be reading more from this author in the future.

As the anonymous blogger at the beginning of almost every chapter states, Ellie is "perfect". She has it all-good grades, amazing looks, a great boyfriend, a plan for what she'll do in life, acceptance from friends and peers alike. But what happens when it's all taken away? In a matter of seconds, the life Ellie once knew is gone-she's involved in a car wreck, her classmate is dead, and she's scarred forever. Why would God allow this? How could He do something like this to her? These are questions Ellie will ask herself as she tries to find hope and sort through the pieces of her once flawless life, discovering that your worth is not defined by your circumstances, but the God who can pull you through the wreck and set you on your feet.. 15+.
