Littlest One is a tiny creature slowly learning her job of giving dreams to humans. Each night she and her teacher, Thin Elderly, visit an old woman's home where she softly touches beloved objects, gathering happy memories, and drops of old scents and sounds. Littlest One pieces these bits together and presents them to her sleeping human in the form of pleasant dreams. But the dreaded Sinisteeds, dark fearsome creatures that plague their victims with nightmares, are always at work against the dreamgivers. When the old woman takes in John, an angry foster child with a troubled past, the Sinisteeds go after him with their horrifying nightmares. Can Littlest One, and her touch light as gossamer, protect John's heart and soul from the nightmare of his dark past?

This is a magical book. I can't understand why it hasn't gotten more attention.

Gossamer begins as a story about Dream-givers, sprite-like beings who try to give humans pleasant dreams. The story then follows an old woman who takes in a foster child named John. There is also a dream-giver watching over John's mother, who is desperately trying to get John back. The story is about a dream-giver named Littlest trying to grow up and learn how to do her job, as well as about John who is growing up and overcoming his troubled childhood.

This book is very good, I really recommend it. But it's a book for readers who have a liking to books that are not as action packed as others. Littlest is the main character and is the curios and sometimes irresponsible type.

I really liked this book. You really feel for John and Littlest One. Littlest One is so cute, and I love that she is always sucking her thumb and trying to hide it. My little sister does that a lot.

One of the greatest books of all time. The magical world was perfect, and the characters weren't larger than life, but characters that you could actually relate to. I loved the Littlest One, she reminds me of my younger sibling. Lois Lowry has created a classic!

very good book

Loved this book! Beautifully written and masterfully constructed, Gossamer approaches questions with a thoughtfulness only Lewis Lowry can, and leaves you with the feeling of awakening from a dream.
