A very realistic post-apocalyptic tale!
“For the first time ever, I felt ashamed of my species. The volcano had taken our homes, our food, our automobiles, and our airplanes, but it hadn’t taken our humanity. No, we’d given that up on our own.”

I had friends that said this book was purely amazing and great, and that I would love it. And I did, despite some things I didn't like.

1. Quite a few times I was internally yelling at the characters to stop being so stupid, naive, and hopeless, but they did it anyways.
2. Cliche at some points
3. The love of Darla and Alex kind of seemed to come out of the blue.

It was still fun, chilling to imagine, and interesting, but I hope the next book doesn't follow in the foot steps of this one.

This book was great, but Alex's uselessness really annoyed me. I loved that Darla was very helpful and knew a lot of things, but at times Alex and Darla's love for each other really made me want to punch them in the face. The book wasn't really hard to stomach or digest for me as some other readers said, in fact I've read worst and came out okay. I'll definitely read the other books, but I'm not sure i really will recommend this book.

Loved this book! I was relieved and waiting to read the sequal! I found it amazing to see the stereotypical older guy-younger girl broken in this book, I really liked how it's now younger guy-older girl in this book. After I read the authors note I really do see how writing a book like this of a disaster that could happen again yet having to use imagination and research to describe how a disaster of this size would be like in the present world. It is amazing how the author described what the apocalyptic world would be like in such a monstrous disaster. Even though there is such gore and brutality in this text, it perfectly describe how the behavior of humans would change in such an event. I would recommend this book for those who can stomach the gruesome details of madness and survival in this book.

The frequent stomach turning descriptions of gruesome gore, were too much! I stopped reading after the third or fourth such incident at about 23% of the Kindle book, couldn't stomach the thought of so much more ahead!

Honestly, the sexuality and course language wasn't that bad and im not just saying that. The author doesnt go into any detail so it wasn't offensive. The grossness definitely wasn't that bad either. I mean if you are a really sensitive person, you would have a lot of trouble reading this book but, I didn't find it that bad, there are a lot more worse books out there that nobody complains about so

Wow. This is one of the worst YA novels I have ever read. I didn't have high expectations for it but Ashfall managed to be far worse than I imagined. It was vulgar and had gratuitous sex left and right. It is rare that I do not finish a book, especially a disaster story. I have always loved a good disaster! However, this book gets a one-star rating. At 220 pages, I'd had enough. I should have thrown in the towel sooner but I hate giving up on books.

While his family is away for the weekend, Alex is home alone as a super volcano erupts. Enduring the terror, Alex determines to seek out his family. On his journey, he sees the best and worst in people.
I found that the graphic violence was unnecessarily gory. I understand that starvation can bring the worst out in people. I also understand that there are individuals who are pure evil. However, when a gun goes off you can leave some of the details to my imagination. I don't have to have a blow-by-blow of someone bleeding out. I usually don't mind heavy violence. In fact, most of the books I read have strong descriptions of gore. But this was unnecessary for a YA novel.

The story includes graphic violence, rape, excessive vulgarity, and repeated profane references to Diety. Additionally, I've learned from other reviews that it includes cannibalism, homesexuality, and teenage sexuality. I disagree with this book being marketed to teens. It would be more appropriate for a mature, adult audience.
