This is a well written first novel set in the Australian frontier with wonderful plot twists. Reads like an American Western with an unforgettable main character. The author's personal history with how she came to write this novel is fascinating.

More like Cold Mountain , just as good.

Despite an unusual choice of narrator, this was a good book. It offered good storytelling with a haunting atmosphere. I especially loved the last third of the book which included a good ending. It's a bit bleak but it completely suits the story.
