Plot: The plot starts when Magnus fights a fire giant named Surt. After losing his life in the fight Magnus becomes an ejahar(a dead person saved by a valkyrie who will live forever in valhalla). From there Magnus makes it a task for himself to stop a wolf who is working with Surt from starting Ragnarok(the end of everything). How will Magnus delay Ragnarok and stop Surt’s plans? Find out that and more in the book.

My thoughts: I think that Magnus Chase is a good book for many reasons. The first reason I think that Magnus Chase is a good book is because of all of the action. To elaborate on that point in the book there are a lot of amazing fights and battles. One example of this is on the island of Lyngvi where Magnus, his close friends, his hall mates, and Valkyries had to fight Surt, his fire giant friends, and Firnis the wolf. The second reason I think that Magnus Chase And the Gods of Asgard: The Sword of Summer is a good book is because of the history behind it. It teaches you about the Norse Gods and Norse mythology. For example at one point in the book Thor tells Magnus that he has 2 kids that are fated to survive Ragnarok. All in all, Magnus Chase is an amazing book and I would recommend it to anyone who likes fantasy.

totally worth the read. i love Riordan's multiverse! (and i thought Percy Jackson was an explosive character!!?!)

Beware mortals, your brain might explode with the AWESOMENESS of this book!

Awesome book and series. Slightly messy start but quickly goes through an awesome plot. This series does not have as much god interference compared to the author's other series, although they are crucial to the plot, which leaves Magnus and his friends to act themselves. I'm also quite delighted by the representation here-- one of the main characters is deaf and signs ASL, which helps with my studies. Later in the series there is a genderfluid person (also main character). This series, unlike the Egyptian and Greek/Roman series this author also has, does not go very in depth into the gods-- not many are featured, though this may be because it is hard to source. Rick should elaborate more, as minor deities in Norse mythology are not given any time here.
Great book and series. Recommend 100%. If that is not enough to tempt, the main storyline interacts with main characters of the Percy Jackson series.

Magnus Chase becomes homeless when a pack of wolves kill his mother and destroy his former apartment. After years of homelessness, he suddenly encounters his estranged uncle, who introduces him to Norse mythology and Viking history. After uncovering a long lost Viking sword, Magnus is quite literally carried into another world; Here, he meets new friends from different time periods and worlds, and tumbles into a quest, where the fate of the world(s) is in his hands.

The Sword of Summer starts an intriguing trilogy into Norse Gods and mythology. Rick Riordan, with his knowledge in Greek and Roman mythology, yet again employs humor, suspense, and a dynamic group of characters to enhance his storytelling, and keep readers on their toes. Those who read this book will not only have a good laugh, but will also learn things about Norse mythology that they might not learn about in school.

Spectacular book! I really recommend if you want to learn a bit about norse mythology and if you want to laugh. I especially recommend if you loved Percy Jackson and The Olympians.

For some reason I think in Mark of Athena, the star point shouldn't be focused on Annabeth, also same thing goes with blood of Olympus. I mean Jason and Piper only got the attention in lost hero, so....
you know what I mean...
also you guys that read Percy Jackson & the Olympians, you should check out the movies.
(there is only two)
T-T

By the way u peeps are really tempting me to read this "humorous" book.
hehe!!

Wonderful book, and a great explanation and telling of some of the lesser known aspects of Norse mythology. I fully recommend the Magnus Chase series to anyone who loved the original "Percy Jackson and the Olympians". It's much more brutal and metal and gives a hard insight to some of the more difficult aspects of teenage life (i.e. loss, balance, death, family, etc.)

Not as good as the Heroes of Olympus series, but it was still really good. I liked how it started out as a homeless guy called Magnus chase who had literally no idea about the world.
