I enjoy this series. It has compelling stories and interesting characters, but it does tend toward the darker, grittier side. And as a Tucson resident, I find it hard to have any nostalgia for Phoenix, a city that has no discernible soul.

I've read and enjoyed all of Jon Talton's novels, but this one was hard to take. Torture of a Russian mafioso was far too explicit.
