Finding God in All the Wrong People

"Bolz-Weber invites readers into a surprising encounter with what she calls 'a religious but not-so-spiritual life.' Tattooed, angry, and profane, this former standup comic turned pastor stubbornly, sometimes hilariously, resists the God she feels called to serve. But God keeps showing up in the least likely of people--a church-loving agnostic, a drag queen, a felonious Bishop and a gun-toting member of the NRA. As she lives and worships alongside these 'accidental saints,' Nadia is swept into firsthand encounters with grace--a gift that feels to her less like being wrapped in a warm blanket and more like being hit with a blunt instrument"--Dust jacket flap.

I found this book inspiring and I suspect it would be for others who are simultaneously drawn to religion and disappointed in it. I so enjoyed the honest, practical commentary from this heavily tattooed, prone to cursing, faux-Mohawk-haired, female Lutheran priest serving in an inner-city church. She gets to the heart of spirituality, flawed people and a gracious God. This is a "shot in the arm" read, for sure.

Grateful I had read "Pastrix," Pastor Nadia Bolz-Weber's first book, first. It explains her background and what brought her to where she is today. That being said, God shows up in so many people. Reminds me of the song lyrics, "What if God was one of us?" Great read.

I loved this book so much that I read it twice! The author is blunt and direct, and occasionally profane, but she is genuine and engaging. I do not attend church regularly, and I found these stories to be inspiring and thought-provoking. I believe that both regular church-goers and the non-religious would enjoy this book and find value in it. I highly recommend it.

I'm just finishing this book and I would recommend it if you like books that are very truthful. She makes a case for non-churchy church, If profane language turns you off, don't read this book. She calls them like she feels them. I'm not a church person, but I would attend her church, at least once.
