In the autumn of 1943, André Boulloche became de Gaulle's military delegate in Paris, coordinating all the Resistance movements in the nine northern regions of France only to be betrayed by one of his associates, arrested, wounded by the Gestapo, and taken prisoner. His sisters carried on the fight without him until the end of the war. Boulloche survived three concentration camps and later became a prominent French politician who devoted the rest of his life to reconciliation of France and Germany. This is the first time the family has cooperated to recount their extraordinary ordeal.

A must-read. The story is gripping (of course). The impact on the continuing lives of the three siblings - and on their children and extended family - is unexpected. The author's exploration of two plausible reader reactions: I would have done the same, vs I could never have done this, provides food for thought.

Good read about the resistance and how one family was affected by the war and each family member's path during the war and after the war. So wonderful that the author was able to get the stories from these heroes who thought they were doing what anyone would do and did not judge other family members for what they did or did not do

An excellent book - I learned so much about the French Resistance and the struggles the people of France endured during World War II

This was a very moving true story of a French family in which 3 adult children joined the French Resistance, and what happened to them and to other family members. The author, a family friend, was given access to pictures, official documents and family letters, and the result is a big story (WW2 in Europe) told through the smaller lens of this heroic family.
