Opinion

From Library Staff

Stephen King delivers a generous collection of stories, several of them brand-new, featuring revelatory autobiographical comments on when, why, and how he came to write (or rewrite) each story.

I love Stephen King, but some of these stories were a bit bland. My favorite was Morality.

My favorite story was Mile 81.

Fantastic and would recommend. However, I have read several of his collections and I would agree that some of the stories contained in this collection needed a little more "edge" or excitement. Still has several stand out stories and is worth the read!

Probably the lowest ranked Stephen King piece I have ever given. Some of the stories in this collection were quite good ( UR, Blockade Billy, Mile 81, Obits ), others were predictable or even boring, I did not care for his poetry at all. The best part of this, on the audio side is the variety of narrators, including Stephen King, whom I always enjoy listening to.

I absolutely love SK's writing. He pulls you in and before you know it you cannot put this story down. If it is an audiobook, I have been known to waste a lot of gas so I can see what happens next. In my humble opinion the man is a genius.

Good but not great - as one commenter said, "needed more with teeth."

Quirky and odd! Just the way I like them!

There are some stories that stand out really well for me "Mile 81", "Afterlife" to name two specifically. Some fall into so-so territory. Nothing is terrible by any means - Stephen King has been going so long for a reason - but it was an alright entry of his in comparison to other short story collections he's done.

Library Journal recently awarded a starred review to Stephen King's latest story collection noting, "...narrators, 16 total are, are perfectly matched to their pieces..." Stand outs include those narrated by Edward Herrmann, Mare Winningham, Will Patton and Cotter Smith.
