Being a really big fan of ruff'n'tuff Western stories, I have read quite a good number of Zane Grey's action-packed novels over the years._____ Most of the time I have enjoyed reading Grey's idealized vision of the rugged, American frontier. But, when it came to The Call Of The Canyon (written in 1924), I found (much to my dismay) that its focus leaned way-way too much on a frilly, little romance and not near enough on the tough, masculine, cowboy-type action that I like so much._____ And because of that, its story was barely able to hold my undivided attention and rightly satisfy my hankering for a rip-roarin', good tale of the gun-crazy Old West._____ Throughout his life (1872-1939) Zane Grey wrote over 90 books, most of which were Westerns. With a keen eye for details, Grey expressed his vision of the Old West very well in his works. Through these many years a number of his novels have been turned into motion pictures, such as The Riders Of The Purple Sage.
