I would have to agree with a previous reader - this was a tedious slog. I loved the Carol Burnett show during its heydey and remember many of the skits and guest stars she describes in the audiobook. However, it is narrated in such a flat monotone, it was really disappointing. Carol herself narrates but there's no enthusiasm or energy in her narration and she repeats herself so often ("so glad our guest came to play in the sandbox"), it became irritating. She frequently described, in detail, various famous skits, which I recalled, but instead of providing the "background or inspiration," for the skit, she simply retold it. It really felt at times that she was simply adding filler. Overall, a disappointing read.

I have great memories of watching this show with my Mom. Carol's insights make me want to watch these shows with my kids!

I enjoyed Carol over the years. I hoped to get a behind the scene look at things. This was mostly.. Read script in the morning, had lunch, whispers watched All My Children.

Sadly, I found this book a bit tedious to get through. I was looking forward to Carol's wonderful sense of humour and a lively audio experience. However, she was flat. She read; she didn't perform.
Also, the stories were repetitive. Hearing "I was glad they (guest performer) came and played in the sandbox with us (regulars)" so many times was eye-rolling.
In the end, it all sounded like 11 years of fun, games, good times both at work and at home. What you get here is the show, in audio, read in an un-Carol-like flat tone with strange inflections.

In my younger years I delighted in Carol Burnett’s screwball characters and humour. So her recounting of all the on and off camera details was very entertaining. As well, I gained insight into her caring and generous personality through her narration. I thought the CD book might have actual sound clips from the show (it didn’t), but then – synchronicity! – PBS aired a 90 minute special of “Carol Burnett’s Favorites” which I recorded. Sweet.

In this memoir, Carol Burnett reminiscences about the eleven years, 1967 to 1978, that The Carol Burnett show ran on CBS. She gives a brief run-up about her career prior to 1966 when she and her then-husband, Joe Hamilton, used an option in her contract to have her own show. Carol talks about how they created the show, selected the regulars (Harvey Korman, Vickie Lawrence, Lyle Waggoner, and Tim Conway), and then shares behind-the-scenes stories about the most memorable guest stars (Lucille Ball, Alan Alda, and Betty White). She also recalls their most famous and infamous sketches that often became recurring episodes in later years. This book would be perfect for Carol Burnett fans who remember the show and the movies from the 1940s and 1950s that inspired many of their sketches.

Witty, warm and wonderful, it's as good as you could possibly imagine.
