"From subway to Broadway to happily ever after. Modern love in all its thrill, hilarity, and uncertainty has never been so compulsively readable as in New York Times and #1 international bestselling author Christina Lauren's (Beautiful Bastard, Dating You / Hating You) new romance. Marriages of convenience are so ... inconvenient. Rescued by Calvin McLoughlin from a would-be subway attacker, Holland Bakker pays the brilliant musician back by pulling some of her errand-girl strings and getting him an audition with a bigtime musical director. When the tryout goes better than even Holland could have imagined, Calvin is set for a great entry into Broadway--until he admits his student visa has expired and he's in the country illegally. Holland impulsively offers to wed the Irishman to keep him in New York, her growing infatuation a secret only to him. As their relationship evolves from awkward roommates to besotted lovers, Calvin becomes the darling of Broadway. In the middle of the theatrics and the acting-not-acting, what will it take for Holland and Calvin to realize that they both stopped pretending a long time ago?"-- Provided by publisher.

Not my favorite Christina Lauren romance but it was good. I liked the idea of a marriage of convenience but I prefer her standalones with more sexy banter.

This book was incredibly sweet! I loved the vulnerability and the communication between the two main characters. It really did represent some real relationship struggles couples may be facing. Additionally, it was related-able in terms of the struggles Holland was facing in finding "passion" in her career. A great read for young adults who are lost in their personal and career expectations. Genuinely heart warming novel.

Review excerpt: "Reading 'Roomies' was a bizarre experience. I had two reactions simultaneously. One was great enjoyment in a lovely romance with great characters and dialogue and a comforting fairy tale atmosphere. The other was of pure, blinding rage brought on by the political and social issues that currently crowd my brain."

Sophisticated & super sexy, beautifully written with smart, believable dialogue & great characters. Holland & Calvin were just flawed enough to make them interesting & lovable, they had a story-with-a-twist & I find myself the next day devising new scenes for them. Secondary characters were interesting as well -- even Lulu, who I didn't like, was interesting. And of course, the New York City setting is like coming home.
A treat from beginning to end.

Fabulous. Fabulously sweet, swoony, and witty. So many sigh-worthy lines slipping out of Irishman Calvin's mouth. I couldn't get enough. Based on their last three releases, I'll be making a point of reading more of their backlist, as well as all future releases.

4.5 Stars - I highly recommend if you enjoy contemporary romance.

Holland is obsessed with a subway busker. She doesn't know his name, or really anything about him, but he's her biggest crush. When she's mugged and pushed onto the tracks, he calls the police to help her, and then disappears. Who is this guy?! When her uncle's Broadway show is short a musician, she suggests her busker crush... and as much as he'd love to take the job... he's not in the US legally. Holland decides that it's worth the risk to marry her crush, so that he and her uncle can both be successful. However, faking being married, feels really comfortable. And having a crush on your fake husband makes it hard to keep things fake for long.

Squee! This was the cutest: 1) I love fake-to-real romances, 2) he's IRISH, 3) she's sooooo socially awkward. OMG. This had me just squirming at the cuteness. I really thought that this whole book and the characters were adorable. I loved Holland and Calvin. I loved Holland's uncles. I thought that the chemistry was really great, it was a little sweeter than their other book I read this month because it wasn't a hate-to-love relationship. I think that this book was another smart romance, it was hilarious, it was sexy, it was a lot of fun to read.

Sweet, modern romance with a marriage of convenience as its centrepiece. Holland and Calvin's story is engaging in all its adventures.
