Very underrated movie. No theater play. Not well known. Movies only make good political statements if the story stands on its own and the characters are real. This one does both. Never really get any sense of a political message until the trailer when the movie is over. Renner plays well in a Wyoming landscape of silence and survival. Olsen is an FBI agent, sent out to gather evidence of a crime and ends up in the middle of it. Great firefight at the end.

This drama and mystery film is about a wildlife officer and a FBI agent who pick up the case of a young Indigenous woman who was murdered and raped, and left out alone in the cold winter air. This movie revealed the true reality of the way Indigenous women are treated, and brings some societal issues into the limelight.I was pleasantly surprised by this movie because I was worried that they were going to tell the story wrong, but it was actually quite interesting to watch and had some pretty good performances. I would rate this movie 4/5 stars. @The_Reviewer of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board

This movie was pretty weak- I'm not going to enjoy a movie because it is tangentially related to certain political causes- No, the movie itself has to stand on it's own, which this film doesn't- it's hackneyed and cliched with some poor acting.

I give this a very high rating which I rarely do. A well told story which is well acted by a virtually unknown cast. Highly recommended for those who are adult enough to understand the reality of the problem behind this on reservations.

Loosely based on true events. Held my interest throughout. Reminiscent of Box novels with "Joe Picket". Would recommend and watch again.

I thought this movie was great. "Excellent" was one of the words I used. I recommend this movie 2nd to "Spotlight."

This was at best a pretty amateurish affair. I'm boondoggled as to why so many people rate such a mediocre affair so highly ( the politics of the piece I guess ? ). While the topic is an important one, I'm not going to say the movie is a good one because it's not.

Written and directed by Taylor Sheridan in 2017 inspired by the real events, this FBI crime drama depicts the investigation of the murder of a native Indian girl.
It has something to do with the misssing indigenous women in BC.
The first half of the movie appears too slow-paced.
After the middle, however, comes a dramatic and shocking incident.
Superb are the performances of Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen.

Not brilliant, but the gist of this film is the tragedy - ongoing crimes against indigenous people, specifically women. The women are not even counted/included in statistics. Anyone able to view Canadian television who has not tuned into the half hour program, TAKEN is negligent, or very unaware of this issue. It hits closely to the mark of unaccounted disappearances for women of color.

J Renner is his usual stoic character, well-played. Graham Greene will always be the magnificent Kicking Bird in my mind. It's good to see him despite the years. The machismo of the damaged males is spot on. I fear they are the returned from war zones who cannot reenter society & move on with productive lives, this possibly through no fault of their own. That is a whole other subject in itself.

Haunting tragedy effectively written, cast, and acted. Yeah Jeremy Renner! A heartbreaking tribute to missing and murdered indigenous women and girls. There is not a lot of dialogue but every word counts. It was helpful to watch with subtitles ON to catch words to occasional softly sung melodies. Watched this movie again a few days later and found more meaning the second time, and I can imagine watching it again. This could be best picture of the year in any decade.

Then the phone rang which is never good. But today it was.

You're daughter's gone. Now the good news, as soon as you accept that, as soon as you let yourself suffer, allow yourself to grieve, You'll be able to visit her in your mind, and remember all the joy she gave you. All the love she knew.

The point is, Martin, you can't steer from the pain. If you do, you'll rob yourself. You'll rob yourself of every memory of her. Every last one. From the first step... to her last smile. The Gannet Peak. Highest mountain in Wyoming. On the hottest day in August, still there's a feet of snow. Today, too cold to snow.

You know what it's like out here in this frozen hell? Ain't there nothing to do. No nothing. Aint no women, no fun. This is fxcking snow and the fxcking silence, that's all!
-My family's people were forced here. Stuck here for a century. That's snow and silence is the only thing that hasn't been taken from them. So what did you take?

I got lucky.
-Ah. well, luck don't live out here. Luck lives in the city. Don't live out here. It lives where you get hit by a bus or not. Where your bank is robbed or not. (12-7-2017: Ojai officials said it was a “miracle” that fierce Santa Ana winds had subsided on Thursday ...)
I got my truck and a high out of there and I wound up in a little mountain town called Ojai. I get there and it's like fruit farms. Vineyards. And there is this mountain surrounding it you know like protecting the town. And the people there like everybody smiles at each other. They say hello. it's like I remember thinking they were all like. I don't know. They had these looks in their eyes. Like they ran on some sort of secret like they had all figured it out. There is this mission, the Spanish mission right there in the middle of the town. They are having Christmas mass. They're celebrating Christmas. 70 degrees where you know. I just land there. pick me an orange of the tree and sat down on a bench, to listen that choir singing, eating my orange. You know that was the best Christmas I've ever had.

A Meadow in My perfect world:
Here is a meadow
in my perfect world.
Where wind dances
the branches of the tree
casting leopards spots of light
across the face of pond.
The tree stands tall
and grand and alone,
shading the world beneath it.
There will come a day
when I rest against its spine
and look out over a valley
where the sun warms,
but never burns.
I will watch leaves turn
Green, then amber, then crimson.
Then no leaves at all.
But the tree will not die.
For in this place,
winter never comes.
It is here,
in the cradle of all I hold dear,
I guard every memory of you.
And when I find myself frozen
in the mud of the real
far from your loving eyes.
I will return to this place,
close mine, and take solace in the simple
perfection of knowing you.
