This set includes the two-part pilot, "A Great Deliverance," as part of the series. Sno-Isle Libraries, also, has that pilot on its own available for check out. An excellent series. I enjoyed it immensely.

I really enjoyed this series, and think it is, overall, well done--but very British:

What does a Lord do these days? If you happen to be the 8th Earl of Asherton, and your name is Lynley, you become a police officer, grass up some people (who needed grassing) and condescend to and annoy everyone until they team you up with, Havers the only other universally hated cop in England.

If you are an Earl, and rich, and a Superintendent, you also get more female attention than you need, so you have learned to protect yourself (using the same tape recording technique male university professors do). And, if you are morally superior to all you colleagues, you can rub their noses in that. Having a perfect family, you are also free to think poorly of Havers whose mother is in advanced stages of senile dementia.

In your spare time, you and Havers can go out and solve a few crimes, while running into your best mate and his new wife who had promised to marry you.
