Absolute musical domination by maybe the best of the Crimson lineups through the years (Robert Fripp and Adrian Belew on lead and rhythm guitars, Bill Bruford on drums, and Tony Levin on bass). The original 1981 release peaked on the album charts at #41 in the UK and #45 in the US - but King Crimson wasn't unleashed on the unsuspecting world to mess around on the pop charts. Complex interlocking guitar weaves by Fripp and Belew anchored by the explosive jazz/rock drumming of Bruford and bone-rattling bass lines from Levin take the listener on a wild ride, from the humor and imaginative guitar stylings of Elephant Talk to the mysterious and beautiful vocals and lyrics of Frame by Frame and Matte Kudasai. A true musician's album full of odd tunings, unique instruments (including Levin's 10-string Chapman Stick bass lines and textures), and quirky lyrics, it is nevertheless accessible to an adventurous listener seeking blessed relief from musical monotony.
