Dean Koontz has been one of my favorite authors for years. As usual, he does not disappoint in this novel.

This one grabs your attention right from the first chapter and leans a little more toward the old classic Koontz.

I counted the word "susurration" three times in this novel but I may have missed a couple.

I've always enjoyed Dean Koontz books. Well, most of them. I'm a big fan of his earliest works. While I made it through Devoted, I was rather disappointed. It was like he took "Watchers", stuck in some elements of "Shadowfires" and a bit of Breathless and here ya go. Not one of his better efforts. But hey, it was still better than a poke in the eye.

I agree that this novel reminds me of Watchers. But, as Koontz is smitten with golden labs in real life no surprise. So they are a recurring theme in his writing. The autistic boy in the novel has some characteristics of Koontz who also brushed his teeth so much he had to have a gum transplant. I enjoyed the book and expected it to have a connection with Watchers. Perhaps if he writes more or if this is a series.

Good but not Koontz's best. The book recycles many of the character types and themes prevalent in Dean Koontz's writing. Devoted is a sort of sequel to another novel -- Watchers -- but lacks one element that would have made Devoted a satisfying read and worth staying up all night to get through. Spoilers if I told you what that one element is! On the negative side also there is a great deal of graphic attention given to the villains of the story (and there are many) while most of the heroes are not fleshed out as fully and satisfyingly as usually seen in a Koontz novel. For it's flaws Devoted is a worthwhile read for Koontz fans but not one I would recommend for 1st time Koontz readers.

I think I've read this story before. Is this a re-release of an old title ?
