The book follows a boy named Percy Jackson, a half-blood, half human and half god. On his journey to the Underworld to prove himself innocent of stealing Zues' lightning bolt. In the beginning of the book he is just a normal kid living in New York attending Yancy Academy, a boarding school for troubled children. Our protagonist has both ADHD and Dyslexia, he comes from a poor single parent household, which is part of why he is so relatable to me. There aren't a lot of teens with learning disabilities in Y.A. novels. He must first make his way to half-blood hill, a camp where he can learn about his powers, who his godly parent is and most importantly how to fight other worldly monsters. This book is not just entertaining but you'll also learn about greek mythology and what each god or goddess does. Everything in the book is so original, like Percy's pen sword, Annabeth's cap that makes you invisible or Lucas's sky shoes that let you fly. @Subsub of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public LIbrary Percy Jackson & The Lightning Thief is a worldwide bestseller & for good reason. The story of the young demi-god, Percy Jackson as he finds himself immersed in the world of heroes and the great Greek gods is so captivating as a reader. Rereading this book multiple times it holds the same excitement as the first read. The world building is so well done it has a sense of familiarity and excitement at the same time. I greatly admire the way Riordan writes all the characters not just the main leads, to be very three-dimensional each with their own backstory and purpose. Well deserving of its popularity and can be read again and again. 5 Stars @Ruby_Tuesday of the Hamilton Public Library's Teen Review Board The Lightning Thief is an admirable book devoted to Greek mythology. It is about a demigod who doesn't know what he is until Greek demons start attacking him. So with the help of his friend, who just happens to be a satyr, he makes his way to the only safe place in the world for demigods: Camp Half-Blood. This camp reveals so much about about the unknown: Gods, afterlife, heaven, hell, and much more that are answered throughout the journey. Just as soon as he arrived Percy is forced to leave to find the missing lightning bolt and return it to Zeus before a Godly war erupts. One thing though is definite, not only are the Gods real, every Greek demon is real. This book is very thrilling and will keep you addicted since the first page. I could not stop reading it. The Lightning Thief is the first book in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. Rick Riordan maintains excitement and adventure throughout this book and the full series. Don't worry if you don't know anything about Greek mythology, you will still understand and love this book. 5 stars. @Flo_Reada of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board
