Published in 1950 - The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is a fantasy novel for children (and the young-at-heart) which was written by C. S. Lewis. It is the first published and best known of 7 novels in The Chronicles of Narnia (1950–1956). Most of the novel is set in Narnia, a land of talking animals and mythical creatures. This is a place where the White Witch has ruled for 100 years of deep winter. Lewis wrote the book for, and dedicated it to, his goddaughter, Lucy Barfield. She was the daughter of Owen Barfield, Lewis's friend, teacher, and adviser. *Author's note* - Born in Belfast, Ireland (1898) - Clive Staples Lewis was a British novelist, poet, medievalist, and lecturer. He is best known for his works of fiction, especially The Screwtape Letters, The Chronicles of Narnia, and The Space Trilogy. In 1963 - C. S. Lewis (64 at the time) died of kidney failure.
