Intense 1951 drama, written by Tennessee Williams, and directed by the renowned Elia Kazan, that was considered to be risque (!) to "The Legion of Decency", powerful censors of the day. Brando is nothing short of dynamic as the brutish, abusive Stanley Kowalski, a volatile personality Marlon admittedly despised. Vivien Leigh scored the major role of the haughty Blanche DuBois, his sister in law, (and undesirable semi-permanent houseguest), who is a mentally unstable ex-schoolteacher (with a sordid past) who competes with Stanley for her sister's affection and attention. Needless to say, things don't go well. Terrific jazzy musical score by Alex North (which was also partially censored!). Fantastic piece of cinematic history. FIVE STARS.
