I read the Westmark trilogy over and over as a kid; and at ten years old, I even named my first cat Theo, after the main character, because I loved him and these stories so much. About Theo, Alexander wrote possibly my favourite character introduction ever, just midway through the second page of Westmark:
"As for Theo, he loved virtue, despised injustice, and was always slightly hungry. Apart from that, he was reasonably happy."
I think these books showed me how much grey there is in life, that things aren’t as straightforward as you’d like; but, even so, it’s important to hold on to your values and friends. Valuable lessons to be reminded of as an adult, as well.
