The overleaf advertised this is an unbiased account of the US' penchant for making every international event into a matter of nat'l security. Both Democrat and Republican presidents/ administrations were called out to blame, but the premise itself is dove-ish and therefore leans left. I found the early 20th Century accounts believeable, but as I read Unger's portrayal of the latter half of the 1900's and into the 2000's (years of my lifetime) I discovered that his writing didn't capture the context of the time. Hindsight is 20-20...yeah I guess all that money spent on defense was a waste because nothing happened worthy of the expense. Or, was it?
