Otter shows up as a baby on Otter Keeper's doorstep one day and things are never the same. One day, while Otter Keeper is out, Otter decides to open a restaurant with his friend Teddy. The kitchen becomes an absolute disaster and Otter fires Teddy for not doing a proper job of things. When Keeper comes home and the mess is cleaned up, Otter realizes Teddy is missing. An emergency search and rescue ensues. Upon finding Teddy, Otter is happy again and a little kinder to Teddy, but still a less than responsible guy. The illustrations are very colorful and there is A LOT in them. I read the story twice just so I could go back and look at all the little details on each page. The only illustration that confused me was, how old was Otter Keeper when otter first came? He looks like a young boy on the floor, but much older on the next page. This story is what I call tongue in cheek humor. The kind where you are completely silly while holding a deadpan face. This kind of humor can be a lot of fun, but difficult for young children to understand. Otter is a cute character who loves to make the most of life. The book is advertized for ages 4-8. I think ages 6-9 would appreciate it to the fullest.
