NOTORIOUS RBG is a fascinating tribute to the extraordinary Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, champion of gender equality and civil rights who became a pop culture phenom and sparked the catchphrase, “Can’t Spell Truth without Ruth.” The book offers snapshots of her life and career with annotated excerpts from her briefs, opinions, and dissents on key cases. Here the legal vocabulary dragged a bit for me, but these sections were short and the comments helped my understanding. All this is balanced with personal photographs, illustrations, and little known trivia about this extraordinary woman. She loves opera, does not cook or drive, had a surprising friendship with fellow Justice Antonin Scalia, and as an octogenarian can still do 20 push-ups! The section about her 56-year marriage to her beloved Marty is notably touching (handkerchief recommended). But ultimately it is her incredible work ethic, intelligence, and words (see Quotes) that inspire me and others to advocate for justice in our society and country. Carry on RBG!
