Ah, it figures. I was in the middle of Al Franken’s book when the news broke about his bad behavior. This time, I finally get around to watching Season 1 of “Master of None” and guess what happens? Yep, Aziz Ansari gets put in the spotlight for being some sort of creep, or for having a bad date, or . . . something. And, once again, I’m presented with a dilemma: Is it okay to enjoy and praise the work of someone who apparently does not know how to behave appropriately? If Aziz Ansari is a bad guy, I do not want to be praising him. But the fact is, I did enjoy “Master of None”. I thought it was funny, at times poignant, and, dare I say, occasionally thought provoking. Ansari’s character, Dev, is the focus of the show, but the supporting cast brings a quite lot to the table, as well. I believe there is a lot to like about “Master of None”; I just could not ignore the recent headlines. When Dev was in a dating situation, I wondered if what I was watching was perhaps a sanitized version of Aziz Ansari’s alleged slimy real life. I’ll never know for sure, however, what I do know is that Season 1 of “Master of None” is good TV.
