Although I cannot fault the acting and the costumes (Andrea Riseborough and Toby Jones being both excellent) , I think this ponderously- paced production was poorly scripted and directed. In an attempt (presumably) to jazz it up for a modern audience the script was sprinkled with rather non-Christie-like four-letter words, and suggestive sexuality, while the whole thing was filmed in various degrees of gloom--night, twilight, smog, poorly lit room--until late in the film. If that was meant to be metaphorical, I would sooner have been able to see what the heck was going on. I also think some of the extra levels of plot woven into Christie's original story in a bid to ratchet up the psychological complexity just slowed the whole thing down.
