David Baldacci has written another great story in LONG ROAD TO MERCY. The reasoning behind the title selection becomes obvious in the first couple chapters. After that, it is sort of in the background for the rest of the book, but is not the main plot of this story. Baldacci has chosen to focus the book on a very interesting plot. As have so many thriller writers have done, his plot fits loosely (I hope) into current events in our country. But no spoilers on that from me. Lots of twists and turns in the book, and some really interesting characters. The main character is FBI Special Agent Atlee Pine, while Baldacci develops a sidekick for her in the form of her secretary, Carol Blum - and by the end of the book they are a team and both characters make for a great story. The very end of the book, takes us back to the beginning of the story and its title, and it is clearly a set-up (I think) for a sequel with Atlee and Blum. There is another interesting character in the book, a Park Ranger, who if a sequel happens, I am sure will be along for the ride. Enjoy.
