Took me a bit to get into the book but once I was in I was in. It was disheartening to see industry-wide and media complicit in the cover up of sexual harassment and abuse. I am sure it is still happening. Lots of research went into this.

Delightful book about life on the small (but imaginary) Scottish Isle of Mure. The stories center around Flora, who runs the bake shop, and her love, Joel, who was abandoned as a youth and has attachment trauma; Flora's friend who teaches school and is in love with the doctor with two small boys, refugees from Syria; and Flora's brother and his husband who hasn't had contact with his family since high school-and is dying. Nothing stays a secret for long in this small world!Delightful book about life on the small (but imaginary) Scottish Isle of Mure. This is a great movie, a lot of information was gleaned from Mark Felt "Deep Throat" himself. It really shows why we need to have three branches of government and an occasional whistleblower when the system is being manipulated. Nixon's administration almost made this important Watergate Investigation disappear. This is a great movie, a lot of information was gleaned from Mark Felt "Deep Throat" himself. Entries from a 5 year diary the author inadvertently acquired at an estate sale are used to assemble a new short and intriguing diary. Sentences are rearranged to create alternate meanings and organized not by day but by season. As someone who tries to capture each day with a few lines, this made me think about what I want to convey.Entries from a 5 year diary the author inadvertently acquired at an estate sale are used to assemble a new short and intriguing diary. I love this era - the book brings the story and intrigue surrounding Anna / Anastasia who claimed to be the surviving member of the Romanov family to light, transporting you to the past and the struggles of her quest to be recognized in her present. The going back and forth through time was a bit odd with the listening, but the author's note at the very end tells you her reasoning for presenting the story in this manner.I love this era - the book brings the story and intrigue surrounding Anna / Anastasia who claimed to be the surviving member of the Romanov family to light, transporting you to the past and the struggles of her quest to be recognized in her present.…

Wonderful book that is fictional but based on the Tennessee Children's Home Society scandal of the depression era. My mother and her brother were orphans during this time in Colorado so it gave me a good sense of how some of the "for profit" homes operated. Story is told in alternating chapters of Rill - the oldest girl in a family of five kids living on a house boat on the Mississippi with her "gypsy" parents during the depression all taken without parental knowledge into the orphanage and separated one by one - - and Rill's great niece, Avery Stafford, who has grown up in a family of wealth and politics - -but is searching for the truth about her grandmother and her tightly held family secret. I listened to book on CD and couldn't wait to get into the car!Wonderful book that is fictional but based on the Tennessee Children's Home Society scandal of the depression era. Brianna "Bri" is a 16 year old girl who lives in the Garden Heights neighborhood with her mother who has been clean from drugs for 8 years and her older brother who is a recent university graduate who is working in a restaurant waiting for an opportunity to open up for him. The neighborhood is the same one where the book "The Hate You Give" is set. Bri is attending a mostly white magnet school where security guards treat the kids of color differently than the white kids - and Bri ends up being unjustly thrown on the floor while trying to come into school. She writes a song "On The Come Up" that lets people know that she won't be kept down, but the lyrics aren't made clear to those who don't know the situation and a lot of parents protest the song while the kids at school take it up as their anthem. She has talent, is scouted and has to navigate this world while trying live at home without lights and food because her mother was laid off from the church. There is nice growth shown in the characters and between Bri and her family and the grandparents, parents of her father, also an up and coming rapper, who was shot by a rival gang before his career launched and before Bri was old enough to remember him. I listened to the book on CD - -it was 10 discs and development of all the characters and the plot were pretty straight forward in my opinion it could have been much shorter.Brianna "Bri" is a 16 year old girl who lives in the Garden Heights neighborhood with her mother who has been clean from drugs for 8 years and her older brother who is a recent university graduate who is working in a restaurant waiting for an…
