I read this because I'm obsessed with reading and protecting banned books. Maybe it was shocking back in 1951, but not by today's standards. I'm glad to see some teenagers on here reading it, simply because it means there's some teenager's…

This is an excellent book. So compelling, funny and set in the time period it was written. Still a delight today.

Adults will not appreciate the book because it is written from a teenager's perspective. Most adults forget that when they were Holden Caulfield's age that all they did was complain about phony adults, whine about why nobody understands…

I rated "Catcher in the Rye" as poor because it failed to impress me, linguistically or emotionally and because the first person narrative, the whining, relentless and grammatically incorrect prose of a teenager is something I struggle to…

It was really a funny book about a teenage boy who kicked out of school. I think every teenager should read this, also i like the ending of the book. The language was street language thats why the characters are very realistic.

Oh geez. The unmitigated WHINING. Nonstop, some legitimate grievances but really just general nonstop whining and stupidity. Supposedly that is its brilliance, that it is the stage in our lives when we whine without fully understanding.…

Classic day-in-the-life first-person narration of a boy who is kicked out of his private school and heads into New York City for the day, avoiding heading home to confront his parents. In the top 100 books of the 20th Century on many…

For me, I thought it was an okay book. I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would and I couldn't fully appreciate the novel. The best part I thought was the end and Holden began to have a better perspective on life.

One of the best novels of all time. Holden's story is one that many follow throughout high school - trying to find their place in life at a young age. With his absent parents and wanting a better life for his sister, Holden tries his best…

A classic novel that I think all teens should read. The ending was the best part to me and wrapped it up perfectly. I understand why there are negative reviews. Teens resent the book because they were "forced" to read it in school. But…

It empathizes the inevitable internal struggle of every American teenager. And, yes this is exactly why it is a classic. Holden's downright frustration with the real world and how it is full of "phonies" not only showcases the fear of…

This book is such a classic young adult read in terms of English study novel. It is highly relate able to Holden's phony world experiences and the symbolism is terrific in this book (i did a project on its symbolism and got a 100 %)

I'm glad that I read it and that it affected me the way it did--spiritually and morally-- especially as I look at some of the comments rating this book as ".5" out of "5" and feel a slight hint of loathing for that type of blind person. We…

This book really isn't as bad as so many people say it is. I actually didn't mind it. Pretty good read although the ending was really bad, you could tell the author got a little tired of writing the book.

I always thought that this book was a serious endeavor, some sort of literary juggernaut that all American teenagers had to muddle through in the same way their Canadian counterparts were forced to read The Stone Angel by Margaret…

I read it few times as teenager - luckily nothing to do with school - imagine being young and discovering J.D. Salinger? This is must-read classic. Warning: do NOT read it if you are already depressed.

I did not like this book. I found it crude, with little direction. The language, while attempting to sound like a teenager, often just sounded like bad writing. The ending was hardly an ending at all. I did love the brother-sister…
