The (now non-cannon) novelization of the Clone Wars movie is … interesting. It's a different take on the events of the film and it places a big focus on the effect of the war on all of the characters. Not only that, some movie scenes are simply glossed over. (For example, Padme's meeting with Ziro is only mentioned after it happened. But we don't ever read about it). There are some references to other books from the Legends universe (like Rogue Planet), and there are some continuity problems with the show and prequels. Anakin's character is very battle-hardened and his past comes back to haunt him a lot. The book shows how much the choices he made from Attack of the Clones have affected him whereas the film is much more light-hearted and humorous. The Jedi are also roasted pretty intensely here, but that just shows how the author views the whole conflict. The book isn't bad by any means though! It's short and sweet and there were some parts that made me feel like I was Anakin and in the middle of a battle! (Good writing for sure). I would definitely recommend this if you want to read a grittier, darker side to the intro of the Clone Wars. The (now non-cannon) novelization of the Clone Wars movie is … interesting. I'm surprised that a lot of people don't like this movie. I found it surprisingly entertaining! Sure, it's not perfect, but the story works, and the characters are literally so hilarious. Sure, the animation is older but it's not awful. For someone who likes Star Wars so much, it's surprising that I've never watched this or watched a ton of The Clone Wars. It occurred to me that I had actually only read a few of the books in the Legacy of the Force series and Betrayal wasn't one of them. It's always good to start from the beginning, right? Anwyays, overall, Betrayal is fast paced and interesting, and It starts off strong and has plenty of humor to lighten the mood. It does a nice job of reminding you of the past several conflicts and the effects it has had on the main characters, and also slowly prepares you for the ending which left me emotionally devastated. Jacen has always been one of my favorite characters. He's relatable and interesting. But he makes plenty of bad choices in this novel (not to mention some bad choices in the previous ones), that make you really want to smack him. In a lot of ways this novel reminded me of Revenge of the Sith in how the villian mixes just a little bit of truth with a lot of lies. And no matter how much you want to shake sense into the character, they don't think a ton about the consequences until much later.
So, I can definitely say that the ending of this book is worth the read. You'll have to get through a bunch of not-so-interesting space battles and scenes where Wedge acts like villian, but it really makes you think about good vs. evil. I like to think that Betrayal gives us a simple reminder that we can't dabble in dark stuff and still expect to be good. I also think it reminds us of how sneaky evil really is and how we need to be careful about the choices we make.It occurred to me that I had actually only read a few of the books in the Legacy of the Force series and Betrayal wasn't one of them. If you know me, then you know I can't resist watching a good historical drama. The Spanish Princess is entertaining and it leaves you wanting to watch more after the end of every episode. Even if it isn't exactly historically accurate and though it takes a different take on the books, I enjoyed all of its twists, surprises, romances, and suspensefulness. The costumes were great and the cast did really well! (Is anyone else in love with Ruairi O' Conner after this?😆 ahaha). The show is very intense and graphic at times so I wouldn't recommend it to younger audiences. The ending especially is a bit dark and I think Starz could have toned down the language, violence, and other graphic scenes as it kind of leaves you a bit disturbed and takes away from the overall story. However, I think the themes and messages of love, trust, honesty, and duty are still very applicable to us now. While trying to fulfill ambitions and destinies at whatever cost seems right in the moment, The Spanish Princess shows us a little glimpse of why we shouldn't go too far in a bad decision and how little control we have of the future once the consequences of that become a reality. If you know me, then you know I can't resist watching a good historical drama. Spoilers?
I'm not sure if you can say that there's such a thing as spoilers in historical fiction since the main events that we know about already happened, haha. But anyways, I heard about this book after being sucked into an ad about The Spanish Princess TV series, lol. I've always been fascinated about the Tudor line and their story so this was a good opportunity for me to learn more about Henry VIII's first wife: Catherine of Aragon. She's an interesting person and you have to admire her for putting up with everything she went through. There's a lot of speculation about what really happened in her first short marriage and her motivations for becoming queen, but this story focuses on the idea of what if she lied after Arthur died and everything she worked so hard to accomplish was to fulfill that promise to him and her own destiny of becoming queen of England. If you think about her background of growing up during Spain's liberation, and her determination to prevail in difficult times, her decision to lie makes sense. It made me wonder if I would act the same way if I was put in the same situation. But, on the other hand, it doesn't match up with her strong religious beliefs. She was a strong believer in her faith and had strong values from what I can tell. If she lied, wouldn't she think that would affect her standing with God? Especially when that was one of the most important things to her? Definitely something to think about.
Whatever side seems more convincing to you, only Catherine of Aragon will know what really happened. So I guess if you want to read a fictionalized version of one side of the story, definitely read this! Then watch the show if you want to see it acted out and watch another view of the story.Spoilers?

THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS: Set not too long after the Dark Empire comics, Crimson Empire shows a very dark side to the galaxy. If I had to pick one theme for this series, it would definitely be loyalty. The comics follow Kir Kanos, a former red guard who attempts to evade capture from another former guard named Carnor Jax, who has proclaimed himself emperor. Along the way Kanos encounters the rebels and the New Republic and helps and betrays them while also working as a bounty hunter. Despite the fall of Emperor Palpatine, Kanos is very loyal to the old order and vows to take down anyone who he considers to be a traitor. (Which as you find out, is quite a lot of people). I think the other characters were interesting especially Mirith Sinn who acts as Kanos's love interest. She reminded me a lot of Mara Jade and anyone who is a fan of her will probably like Sinn's character. I also thought Carnor Jax was a really cool villain with an awesome name. My only problem with him is that he dies way to early which sort of contradicts the idea that he's the story's main antagonist. Besides that, I enjoyed appearances from other Legend universe characters such as Nom Anor, Leia, Han, Luke, their kids, Gilad Pellaeon, etc... Having all of the characters in there felt like a good way to connect this series with the other books. Overall, Crimson Empire is an interesting story and it did leave me wondering whatever happened to Kir and Mirith. Though I would note that the comics are dark and violent so I would recommend this for older audiencesTHIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS: Set not too long after the Dark Empire comics, Crimson Empire shows a very dark side to the galaxy. To be honest, I had a hard time understanding this book and had to look up the summary on Wikipedia to try to figure out what I just read. The story takes place 12 years after the events of Dune. Paul is now the emperor and struggles with all of the destruction he has caused during those years. In the meantime, there is a plot put in place to dethrone him and Chani and Princess Irulan have a never ending battle to see who will have the empire's next heir. On top of that, Alia has her own weird story going on. (I still don't like her character, even though she's older).
Overall, this story is still pretty interesting and I have to admit that the ending was pretty shocking. I really think it helped to have read Paul of Dune before this as Herbert references things that may seem random but were actually important plot points in the last novel. As a con, I'm not really sure what the message of this book is. I couldn't tell if Frank Herbert was making a complaint against government, if he was trying to say that religion and government should be separate, or something else. I also should note that there's a lot more swearing in here than in Dune. Anyways, if you're reading the Dune series, this is not one to skip because even though it's super hard to understand, a lot of important things happen. To be honest, I had a hard time understanding this book and had to look up the summary on Wikipedia to try to figure out what I just read. Believe it or not, there's actually a Robert Jordan book that's only 352 pages. And for the most part, it's kind of good. This novel was written in the 1970s, sold a few times but never published. (This is explained in the foreward by RJ's wife). Written in first person point of view, the plot follows Wulfgar, a leader of the nomadic-like warrior group called the Altaii who works to save his people from a drought. Throughout the story, he faces off with rival warrior groups, twin queens, women who can use magic, animals, and various other individuals.
Before reading this, I had heard that this book was written similarly to Conan the Barbarian and my first two thoughts were uh oh and oh no. (If you know anything about the Conan books or movies, you know what I mean). Thankfully, this book is nowhere near as extreme as Conan and tones down a lot of things. Unfortunately, there are still some things to watch out for such as the violence, treatment of slaves, one implied rape scene, and nudity (which in some parts was too much information).
However, the story itself was interesting and enjoyable and I thought having twin queens as villainesses was very original and pretty cool! As a big Wheel of Time fan, I especially enjoyed coming across all of the WOT foreshadowing. As a side note, I suggest reading very carefully to not miss anything important and paying attention to every character. If you don't, the ending could be a little confusing.
In all, the Warrior of Altaii had some problems but it was definitely better than I thought it was going to be. I think what I liked about it the most was the fact that there seemed to be a message that I the reader could take away after finishing the novel. To me, that message was about embracing change and I liked that because I haven't read a book where I felt I could take something away in a long time.
(Also, I don't normally do this, but Leigh Butler gave what I think is a pretty fair review of this novel on Tor.com, so feel free to read it at this link: (https://www.tor.com/2019/10/15/robert-jordans-warrior-of-the-altaii-full-spoiler-review-and-wheel-of-time-parallels/) But be warned: it does contain spoilers).Believe it or not, there's actually a Robert Jordan book that's only 352 pages. **THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS**
Coming at the very beginning of what I like to think of as the 1990s fantasy book explosion is David Eddings's The Elenium Trilogy. The plot revolves around a bunch of knights, a high priestess with magical powers, and a couple of kids who set out on a quest to find a cure for their young queen encased in a diamond throne. I honestly think that this series could have been extremely popular if not for its problems that I'll describe in a little bit. I first just want to point out a few similarities between The Wheel of Time and A Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones) series and am almost pretty sure that these books inspired the other two series. With that said, the similarities to WOT or GOT are the language, the mentions of incest, rape, the spanking of the serving girls, and the really weird fact that a lot of characters appear naked in some scenes, particularly women. All of these things made the books less enjoyable, and I think many of those scenes could have been written differently or deleted. Besides this, the story itself had some problems. The Elenium suffered from too many villains and it was almost like it couldn't decide who should be the main antagonist. The prologue made no sense and felt anticlimactic. The scene with Lady Beliina chopping up serfs and eating their blood and body parts was really disturbing and it almost made me stop reading this book. Besides from being really unsettling, it didn't have much to do with the overall plot. I really don't know why Eddings included that scene in The Ruby Knight. The characters in the group all varied on the moral scale and I liked some of them (Sparhawk, Talen, Bevier and Sephrenia), and others I really couldn't stand. One of those characters is Ehlana who gets out of the diamond throne acting like a promiscuous teenager rather than a queen of the richest city on the continent. Flute was cool until I discovered that she was Aphrael.
Anyways, this book's saving grace was its humor. While full of flaws, the characters' funny or sarcastic comments kept me laughing all the way to the end and it almost made up for everything else ... almost. I also thought that the final confrontation with the villains at the end was well written and kind of cool. That almost made up for everything else too. As crazy as this sounds, even though I didn't really like this series, I will probably end up reading the sequel trilogy in hopes of seeing the story have a better ending.**THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS**

I have to be honest and say that there is no way I would have been able to finish Final Fantasy IV without this guide. It was extremely helpful as it showed me the maps of the different locations, gave me suggestions on how to beat the bosses and other enemies, and shared helpful tips on where to find the augments and who to give them to. If you want to play this game, I strongly recommend you check out this guide as it will be waaay easier for you. Seriously, I don't even think it's possible to beat a Final Fantasty game without a guide book or any kind of help.

For a movie that's slow and full of long, drawn out scenes, it does a pretty good of being suspenseful and intriguing. I think this movie's main flaws are having things go on longer than necessary (like Kirk staring at the newly remolded USS Enterprise for what feels like 10 minutes), unclear transitions and explanations, and the odd ending. But despite all that, I don't think this movie is bad. There's obvious Gene Roddenberry influence, and I enjoyed seeing all the cast of the original trilogy reunite and go on another mission together. Spock and Dr. McCoy's conversations with each other still made me laugh because they're so funny. I also didn't mind the new characters the movie introduced and thought the tension between Kirk and Decker felt realistic. Since this was released in 1979, I have to say that I was actually impressed with some of the special effects.
So do you have to be a Trekkie to enjoy this movie? Maybe. But would I watch this again? A Game of Thrones is an interesting book. Basically, the plot revolves around several ruling dynasties/houses in a medieval-like fantasy setting fighting against each other for claim to the iron throne. George R.R Martin writes well, and it was easy to feel like you knew the characters right away. The book also never really felt boring or slow-paced. I liked the Starks’ story arc the best but also enjoyed getting to read from Jon Snow’s point of view. Some of Tyrion Lannister’s snarky and sarcastic comments were funny and I laughed occasionally.
But don’t get me wrong, there’s a reason I rated it so low. I’ll be honest and say that this is one the hardest books I have ever made myself read. I tried reading this once before a few years ago but didn’t make it past the prologue. I know why now. The book is vulgar, gory, and amoral - to the point where I felt grossed out and sickened by the things that were going on. This includes the descriptive sex and rape scenes, the incest, violence, and language. While you could argue that these things are realistic or historically accurate, I felt like GRRM added some of these things just for the sake of being vulgar or violent. Most fantasy books I’ve read have made up curse words (like The Wheel of Time), and it surprised me that Game of Thrones frequently used so much course language. I had problems with Daenerys’s character in this novel. I know that she’s supposed to develop from a frightened young girl to an empowered woman throughout the series, but she felt too stupid and crazy in this book. I also thought the scene at the end where she makes through the fire naked was really weird and after finishing the book, I felt pretty grossed out.
I would not recommend this book series to a younger audience. Game of Thrones is not Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter. It’s fantasy, but it’s not a fun adventure story with a happy ending and it takes a lot of will power to get to the end. I probably won’t read this again and if I decide to continue reading the series, it will be a while before I do.A Game of Thrones is an interesting book.
